NICOSIA: Gulf Air, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s national carrier, recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of its direct operations from Bahrain to the city of Larnaca on the southern coast of the Republic of Cyprus.
In 1976, Gulf Air launched five direct weekly flights between Larnaca International Airport and Bahrain -- on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Boasting one of the largest Middle East networks with double daily flights or more to 10 regional cities, Bahrain’s national carrier is well positioned to link the Gulf region and Cyprus with excellent connectivity via Bahrain International Airport in less than 90 minutes.
Talal Ahmed Almahmood, Manager Communications and Sponsorships at Gulf Air said that Gulf Air has also a five daily flights between Qatar and Bahrain.
The Gulf Air was established in 1950 and became one of the first commercial airlines in the Middle East. Today, it is a major international carrier serving 43 cities in 24 countries spanning three continents. The airline operates one of the largest networks in the Middle East, with double daily flights to over 10 regional cities, from its hub at Bahrain International Airport.

Gulf Air, to celebrate its 40th anniversary between Bahrain and Larnaca, organized a trip for five days for journalists to visit Larnaca and other important tourism cities in Cyprus. The country of Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, after Sicily and Sardinia, with a maximum length of 240 kms from east to west and a maximum width of 100 kms from north to south, and its capital is Nicosia.
According to a tourism guide, Effie Caracas, 60percent of the island’s income comes through tourism, especially tourists from UK, Russia and European tourists from German, French and Italian and start come in the Island in April to October.
