- Dubai Airports (DubaiAirports) May 18, 2016 The Ukrainian cargo jet named 'Mriya' is the longest and heaviest airplane ever built.

The wide body aircraft is powered by six turbofan engines and is the longest and heaviest airplane ever built, with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes.

It also has the largest wingspan of any aircraft in operational service.

The six-engine aircraft, built to transport the Soviet space shuttle the Buran, is now used for cargo no other plane can handle and on this flight to Perth it carried a large generator purchased by a Western Australian resources company.

The aircraft made stops in Australia, Turkey and Malaysia before touching down in Dubai.
