MADRID, May 18 (KUNA) -- The Spanish city of Cordoba represents the country's rich heritage, culture and history, with distinctive houses designed with fountains and wells, much like those in Damascus.
The city celebrates beauty in May of every year through the "Courtyards Festival of Cordoba", where houses are decorated with flowers and roses in a contest to choose the most beautiful designs and architecture.
Launched in 1921, the festival turned into a national event in 1980 where visitors would be invited inside participating houses to admire their unique features and vote for their favorite. The contest was declared as part of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage" by UNESCO in 2012. (end) hnd.ag
