Turkey- SAA will develop Kosovo's economy, says EU commissioner Hahn

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >The Stabilization and Association Agreement is a historical moment between Kosovo and the European Union.

This was said by the EU Enlargement Commissioner, Johannes Hahn, following a meeting with state leaders in Kosovo.

Hahn said that relations between the EU and Kosovo have intensified.

“SAA is a contract that Kosovo enters with the EU. It is very important to have this agreement, as it offers economic development. We are moving toward free trade areas. Within five years after the entry in force of SAA with Albania and Macedonia, the trade volume has grown and this has created thousands of jobs. SAA offers a favorable business climate for the growth of investments. SAA acts as a framework for our relations. Time has come to intensify our joint efforts, because this offers excellent opportunities for economic development”, Hahn said.

The European commissioner issued a clear message for the institutions of the country, especially for the government, to work in order to strengthen the rule of law.

Hahn said that SAA will not solve Kosovo’s domestic political problems and mentioned the areas where Kosovo must make progress.

“The strengthening of the rule of law and strong institutions are crucial for the implementation of SAA, a better judicial system and commitment in the fight against crime. We will intensify relations, but there must be cooperation to make changes”, Hahn declared.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa has considered the signing and the implementation of SAA as a decisive step for the integration of the country in the European Union.

Mustafa said that economic development is a key issue for integration processes. The signing and implementation of SAA, the Premier of Kosovo says, marks the start of implementation of reforms in general.

“With the implementation of SAA, businesses in Kosovo will be able to make their products available for over 500 million consumers in 28 EU member countries”, Mustafa said.

A delegation of the European Parliament is staying in Kosovo for the implementation of SAA.
