Jordan puts major efforts to protect borders, says U.S. envoy

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, May 15 (Petra) -- U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter Daesh, Brett H. McGurk, on Sunday, said Jordan, which bears a major burden arising from a massive influx of Syrian refugees on its territory, continues to exert tremendous efforts to protect its borders.

Speaking at a press conference here in Amman, McGurk said the U.S. relies on Jordan with regards to Daesh's propaganda on social media networks in addition to how the terrorist organization recruits foreign fighters.

He emphasized the importance of the Jordanian role in the war against Daesh and said His Majesty King Abdullah II's anti-extremist ideology initiatives are important. He noted that Jordanian Royal Air Force warplanes continued to launch sorties against Daesh.

With regards to the latest military developments in the war against terrorism, McGurk indicated that the terrorist group is on the defensive and continues to employ suicide attacks.

According to McGurk, the terrorist organization used to collect $1 billion every year coming from oil and gas sales in addition to kidnapping and robbery operations, but now, the global coalition destroyed a major part of the organization's external sources of funding.

Furthermore, the U.S. official said close coordination is maintained with Jordan and His Majesty the King not only on the war but on the overall ideological aspect of it.
