Morocco, Exportable Model of Renewable Energy: WB Official
(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Morocco is an exportable model for African countries in terms of developing renewable energy, said WB Country Director for the Maghreb Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly. In an interview published in the latest issue of the weekly “Financial News”, Marie-Nelly stressed that Morocco is eager to share its experience with willing countries. She added that the country has set up the MASEN agency with the goal of achieving its sustainable development strategy, notably moving from 42% in the share of renewable energy in the energy mix by 2020 to 52% by 2030. She said that this development model is based on a public-private partnership in which the private sector brings its know-how to complete the project and make it operational. In this regard, Marie-Nelly said that Morocco has opted for solar thermal power technology with the aim of increasing “Noor 1″ storage time by 3 hours and by 1 to 7 hours for other solar plants. African countries are turning to Morocco to get inspiration from its renewable energy experience, she added. The official said that the World Bank is involved in a major program in Morocco, with 70% of commitments destined for climate change-related elements, adding that Morocco will also benefit from financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB).
