Qatar Adopts Cooperation Policy to Enhance Security, Peace in World


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) New York, May 12 (QNA) - Qatar affirmed that it has adopted the cooperation policy with all to promote security and peace in the world, support the development process, settle disputes in peaceful means, respect human rights, fight against terrorism and support peoples choices.

This came in a statement of the State of Qatar addressed by HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani in a plenary session to discuss the high-level thematic about the United Nations, Peace and Security.

The statement added that increasing disputes, spread of terrorism, continuation of foreign occupation, growing poverty, grave violations of human rights, and the absence of social justice need further action and cooperation to overcome those challenges through activating and renewing commitment to principles and objectives of the United Nations.

The statement said that the international community has affirmed in the 16th goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Plan in 2030 the vital relationship between peace, security, justice, the rule of law, development, wise judgment, and conflict prevention that consider as important factors of human development, peace and security in all countries. This requires empowering people, through effective institutions, safe environment and systems that ensure the access to justice and resolve conflicts effectively, the statement added.

The statement underlined the State of Qatar's efforts to ease tensions and resolve disputes in a number of countries, through the mediation to avoid and prevent wars and armed conflicts which constitute a threat to peace and security in the region and the world, including Darfur, Eritrea, Djibouti and others in the Arab region.

The State of Qatar renewed its commitment to the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and all the decisions and declarations adopted by the international community, aimed at creating an enabling environment to achieve security and peace. (QNA)
