DOHA: Nearly 200 students from 60 private and Independent schools in Qatar participated in the third edition of the Qatar e-Nature Schools Contest which ended yesterday.
This year’s edition of the competition featured a quiz show during which teams were asked questions on the Qatar e-Nature application — a first of its kind smartphone application that highlights the rich diversity of Qatar’s environment.
Four schools vied for the title at an exciting final round held at the City Centre Rotana Hotel yesterday.
Each of the team members of the winning team representing Abu Hanifa Model Independent School received a voucher worth QR4,000 and a gold medal while team members of the second placer Al Khansaa Primary Independent School for Girls each took home a voucher worth QR3,000 and a certificate of achievement.
The third and fourth place students from Newton International School – Lagoon and Birla Public School collected vouchers worth QR2,000 and QR1,000, respectively. All four winning schools received a Qatar e-Nature award.
Held under the patronage of H E Dr Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, the contest was organised by Sasol, Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and Friends of the Environment Centre (FEC). Fawzia Abdulaziz Al Khater, Director of the Education Institute, said the promotion of environmental awareness among Qatari students is among the educational goals of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
The Peninsula
