Unrest in Tunisia leads to several police, gunmen deaths


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TUNIS, May 11 (KUNA) -- Unrest in Tunisia late Wednesday had led to the deaths of eight people, including four police personnel and four gunmen.

A statement by the Tunisian Interior Ministry said that security operations in Ariana governorate, near the capital, had led to the capture of 16 suspects. The operations also resulted in the death of two gunmen.

According to security reports, the suspects were planning to launch terrorist operations in the country. Large weapon caches were confiscated.

Meanwhile, clashes between terrorist elements and security forces in Tatouine governorate south of the capital Tunis has led to the death of four security personnel due to a suicide attack carried out by a gunman. Another suspect was killed during the operation.

A number of suspected terrorists and weapons were apprehended during the operations. (end) ksj.gta
