(MENAFN) Iran and Japan are currently discussing the technology for establishing high-speed intercity rail transportation, as the latter is known for its first high-speed rail system, known as the bullet train.
The Islamic Republic intends to spend USD8 billion through the coming six years to revamp its railway network and expand it to 25,000 kilometers by 2025 from the current figure of below 15,000 kilometers.
Moreover, much of Iran's transportation is road-based which is characterized by high accident rates and death toll, let alone the country is vast with an area of more than 1.6 million square kilometers.
The Persian Gulf Republic is also pursuing to grow cooperation with Japan in other fields, including oil, gas and petrochemical refining, shipping and ports facilities, nano- and bio-technologies as well as steel.
