Jordan stresses on training programs in disaster risk reduction


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman May 9 (Petra) -- Jordan Minister of Environment Taher Shakhshir stressed on the need to pay greater attention on training on the general framework for disaster management and preparation of databases of natural disasters in the Arab region.

During his participation in the 3ird meeting of the Regional Centre for Disaster Risk Reduction the minister also called for the preparation of geographical maps till 2040 to address the annual rainfall temperatures evaporation and drought of the North Western part of Asia which includes Jordan Syria Palestine Lebanon and Egypt.

"Jordan has prepared a master National Contingency Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction in coordination with the concerned parties" he explained during the meeting held lately at the Arab Academy for ScienceTechnology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Cairo.

The meeting addressed activities training programs and future plans in the field of disaster risk reduction. It also discuss the center's future work plan including with its projects training and research activities in the field of disaster risk.

The center for was established in 2009 in cooperation between the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) and the AASTMT with the aim of increasing the awareness for addressing environmental crisis facing the Arab region.

It also aims at integrating key regional policies in sustainable development disaster risk reduction. It also aims at boosting capabilities in the fields of research and training on disaster risk reduction in the Arab region.
