U.S. equities upbeat as gold and oil gain

Wall Street shares finished the week higher after as traders mulled the latest non-farm jobs numbers.

The US non-farm payroll for April came in at 160000 compared to forecasts of around 200000 while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.0% as had been expected. It is likely to prevent any interest rate hike to take place in June.

The Dow Jones closed up 0.5% at 17741 while the S&P500 added 0.3% to 2057.

The tech heavy Nasdaq added 0.4% to 4736.

U.S. crude added 0.7% to US$44.62 a barrel as the U.S. rig count dropped and Canadian oil sands output fell by a third

Gold for June delivery jumped 1.7% to US$1294 an ounce.
