Kuwait- Municipal elections kick off in Beirut


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT May 8 (KUNA) -- Lebanon's municipal elections are set to kick off on Sunday amid stringent security measures. The municipal elections are to be held in Beirut the Bekaa Valley and Baalbek-Hermel as thousands of Lebanese head to ballot boxes to cast their votes in the first polls the country has witnessed since 2009.

Several polling stations in the capital Beirut began receiving ballot boxes and the required stationary items. Tight security was also enforced at the stations.

Police and soldiers were deployed heavily outside schools which are normally used as polling stations as voters headed to cast their votes.(end) wsm.haq
