DOHA: The Youth Company (TYC) a grassroots movement founded in Qatar is going international with plans to establish presence in other countries.

“Our founders are in Canada are right now starting The Youth Company International. We are branching out to different parts of the world” Tim Carr Chief Marketing Officer TYC told The Peninsula on the sidelines of Qatar Internship Fair which concludes today at The Gate Mall.

Since its inception five years ago TYC has implemented over 200 projects and involved more than 170000 youth.

“This is our 217th event. Since it was established we have organised activities and events of varying scale from the giant ‘Run the World Festival’ where we have anywhere between 50000 and 120000 attendees to something smaller like this” said Carr.

TYC has been focusing on community outreach involving high school and college students as well as mentorship and internship initiatives such as Qatar Internship Fair he said.

“We are also working on a project where we will have events and activities in Paris London New York and Berlin” Carr said adding TYC has been involved regionally with initiatives in partnership with organisations in Dubai and Lebanon among others.

“We are definitely going to branch out but right now our main concentration is making sure students and the community in Qatar come together with our projects such as 7asanat Olympics during Ramadan” he said.

The 7asanat Olympics involves about 500 volunteers who go to hospitals and visit sick children or to elderly homes to have Iftar and provide the elderly with company during the month he added.

“We also go to intersections and hand out Iftar boxes to motorists to have them relax and not rush because they have something to eat and drink. Around 500 volunteers took part last year but we might have more this Ramadan because we receive a lot of inquiries from people who express interest in the activities” he said.
