Qatar for joint efforts to rejuvenate global economy


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani with Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic (right) yesterday.

DOHA: Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani has called for supporting the World Bank’s idea of making combined international efforts to rejuvenate the slowing global economy.

Addressing the opening session of the two-day Sarajevo Business Forum in the Bosnian capital yesterday the minister noted the global economy is slowing down amid falling oil prices declining growth rates and a continuing trend of weak global economy recovery. A concerted efforts is key to fire up the economic slowdown he said.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim expressed hope that the Sarajevo Business Forum held under the theme of ‘One Region One Economy’ will help in finding mutual solutions for all economic challenges and benefiting from investment opportunities including the partnership project between the public and private sectors .

Sarajevo Business Forum witnessed the participation of a number of senior dignitaries and decision makers including leaders politicians businessmen and executives from the Balkan region and the world. The forum is a major economic platform that allows for exploring investment opportunities in several economic sectors such as energy education agriculture and tourism the ministry noted in a statement issued here yesterday.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim highlighted the close ties between Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina which deepened in the wake of the historic visit of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the country this year.

The minister also called for promoting cooperation between the two countries in all fields particularly in commerce and investment activating ties between the private sector and businessmen from both sides stressing his confidence that the current data indicate that bilateral cooperation is on the verge of a promising future in view of the possibilities and capabilities that distinguish the two sides.

In this regard he stressed the need for exerting more efforts to promote economic ties expand and diversify the investment and commercial partnership and prioritize investment in fields that add to the economies of both countries.

The minister of economy and commerce reviewed Qatar’s economic diversification strategy that aims to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030 which greatly contributed to supporting the vital economic sectors notably the private sector.

He added that Qatar has issued laws and legislations that helped in facilitating the procedures of practicing business in the country and provided an investment-attracting environment for the different economic ventures pointing to the country’s efforts in international commercial arbitration in order to protect local and foreign commercial entities.

Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic met with Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani.

Talks during the meeting dealt with bilateral relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them as well as aspects of joint cooperation particularly with regard to economic trade and investment sectors.

The Minister of Economy and Commerce also met with Chairman of the Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic and Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mirko Sarovic.
