Dubai Customs rolls out two new reading initiatives


(MENAFNEditorial) Dubai UAE May 4 2016: The people of Dubai Customs can now start to really delve into books and have the best book talks. “My Home Library” and “Permanent Libraries” are two new initiatives flagged off by Dubai Customs to boost employees’ reading experiences and knowledge.

‘My Home Library’ initiative helps colleagues share their reading experiences make book recommendations and choose their next read. They can share their secrets to having the perfect home library as well as exchange books.

‘My Home Library’ initiative which builds camaraderie and knowledge is part of the ‘Read’ campaign launched by Dubai Customs towards the end of 2015 to promote reading amongst employees and customers.

On the other hand libraries are now available at all the floors of Dubai Customs’ headquarters as an implementation of the ‘Permanent Libraries’ initiative. Employees can borrow any of the displayed books and discover the joy of reading. A wide spectrum of books are made available so as to attract the attention of all employees. The initiative aims at cultivating lifelong reading habits.

The two ambitious and creative initiatives come following the declaration of the year 2016 as Year of Reading in the UAE and in line with the national reading strategy directed by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of the UAE and approved by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to start the legislative procedure of drafting a UAE National Reading Law which aims to ensure the sustainability of all government efforts to consolidate reading in the UAE for all ages as well as identify the key responsibilities of government agencies in the field.

The Executive Director of HR Finance and Administration Division at Dubai Customs Ahmed Obaid Al Falasi said “In line with the nationwide drive to promote reading Dubai Customs has rolled out two initiatives to enrich the knowledge of its people and ensure they have access to tremendous reading materials.

“It is through reading that DC members can keep abreast of new trends in their fields of speciality. These two initiatives support our strategy in terms of knowledge transfer and implementation of best practices in our business so that we can be better equipped to meet both the challenges and aspirations ahead.”
