DOHA: A total of 4000 students have registered for the first-ever Qatar Internship Fair (QIF) which The Youth Company (TYC) launched yesterday at The Gate Mall.

The four-day fair provides a chance for students looking for internship opportunities to meet companies for summer placement and one of the important initiatives of TYC to promote youth development.

“This is the first time we are organising this fair and 4000 high school and college students have registered to come” Tim Carr Chief Marketing Officer of TYC told The Peninsula.

Of those who registered around 1800 have submitted serious CVs and an ‘in-depth’ form provided by TYC in which applicants can give more details about themselves” said Carr.

“This is mostly for internship but some might actually be able to get a job. Some companies might be opening opportunities elsewhere like in Dubai and Abu Dhabi so not only they will have the chance to learn with the corporate workplaces but also get to see and experience another country” he added.

Fourteen companies are participating in the fair including Vodafone Commercial Bank Qatar Film Society Chevrolet Banana Island QBIC Hilton Nestle TYC Careem Doha Cables QInvest Qatar Extreme Sports and Salam Stores.

“It is part of Vodafone’s strategy to support the youth in basically developing themselves towards a globalised community which Qatar is a great representation for. We offer an internship opportunity today which will go in September” said Mariam Rafehi Youth Segment Manager at Vodafone-the platinum sponsor of the event.

“This is our 217th event. Since it was established we have organised activities and events of varying scale from the giant “Run the World Festival” to something smaller like this. We do a lot of community outreach with the youth and a lot of placement for internships and mentorship“ he said.
