Kuwait- Sustainable development essential in light of global changes - MP
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ABIDJAN May 4 (KUNA) -- Achieving sustainable development's goals is essential to meet steadily growing demands in light of rapid changes in the world a Kuwaiti lawmaker said Wednesday.
Creative action must be taken to meet developmental requirements and needs Undersecretary of parliamentary committee MP Faisal Al-Shaya addressed attendants of the 14th Arab-African conference in Cote d'Ivoire's capital.
Team work and effective partnership between Arab and African countries is the key for achieving the goals of sustainable development Al-Shaya noted pointing out a number of considerations for the two nations' partnership such as joint responsibility and sharing various burdens.
The third Arab-African Summit held in Kuwait in 2013 reiterated the Kuwaiti political leadership's keenness on enhancing ties and exchanges among Arab and African countries he said adding that choosing the slogan "Partners in Development and Investment" for that summit reflects the Kuwaiti leadership's awareness of the economic cooperation's importance as the base of joint interests and the launching point for achieving the desired strategic partnership.
The Kuwaiti lawmaker also indicated that approving recommendations of the Riyadh Resolution's draft which aims at boosting Arab-African cooperation through sustainable investment in agriculture and food security is one of the most highlighted outcomes of that summit.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's initiative to provide soft loans up to USD one billion over five years to non-Arab countries in Africa reiterates Kuwait's keenness on activating its ties with its friends in the African continent and responsibility toward achieving the developmental goals Al-Shaya noted.
He also pointed out the efforts exerted by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) in activating development efforts and extending friendship bridges between Kuwait and developing countries particularly African ones.
Up until April 2016 KFAED has granted 293 loans worth USD three billion for agricultural transportation energy manufacturing communications and infrastructural sectors in Africa in addition to donations aid and contributions to various African institutions said Al-Shaya. (end) ms.ma
