UAE- Sheikha Lubna commends National Policy for Reading

ABU DHABI 4th May 2016 (WAM) -- Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi Minister of State for Tolerance and President of Zayed University has praised the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to start the legislative procedure of drafting a UAE National Reading Law which aims to ensure the sustainability of all government efforts to consolidate reading in the UAE for all ages as well as identify the key responsibilities of government agencies in the field.

The law comes as part of the National Policy for Reading in the UAE which was announced yesterday at a press conference on the final day of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair.

In a statement on the occasion Sheikha Lubna noted His Highness Sheikh Khalifa's comments on his direction to issue the National Reading Law: "The goal of the Reading Law is to provide a sound basis for lifelong learning for all members of our community and enhance the mental intellectual and cultural assets of our people" and he added that "the policies and strategies of reading are the policies of nation-building and the consolidation of cultured people preparing generations for making great strides in development to ensure excellence for the United Arab Emirates enhance their competitiveness and achieve the vision of the future."

Sheikha Lubna commended the National Reading Strategy for the next 10 years which was launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum saying that by this initiative His Highness Sheikh Mohammed has drawn the road map for the establishment of a strong and solid foundation for a new future for the state based on knowledge.
