Oman- State Council Majlis A'Shura discuss economic situation

The offices of the State Council and Majlis A'Shura on Monday held a meeting at the Council of Oman headed by H E Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Manthri chairman of the State Council and H E Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali chairman of Majlis A'Shura.

Both offices discussed the efforts made by the Standing Committees to deal with the current economic situation. H E Dr Manthri said that these meetings help increase coordination between the two councils in taking legislative and regulatory decisions.

H E Dr Manthri said that the economic challenges are an important issue and that the government and private sectors must cooperate in tackling them. He said that the private sector must play its part to support the national economy through domestic investments.

The government supports the private sector by providing required infrastructure and other services H E Dr Manthri said. Speaking on the occasion H E Maawali said that Majlis A'Shura through its office Standing Committees and task forces is following the economic crisis and has held meetings with specialists in the banking economic tourism and oil and gas sectors to get their views. He said that these meetings resulted in a series of proposals on how to face economic challenges due to the fall in oil prices.

A special committee has been formed to study the economic crisis and its impact on society. The committee has held several meetings and will submit its report and recommendations in July. The meeting also discussed the coordination mechanism proposed between the two councils pursuant to the provisions of Article 58 of the Basic Law of the State in addition to discussing the results of studies prepared by both councils.
