Oman- Audit fines...new rules by TRA push for improved service quality

In a set of new measures determining Licensee Quality of Service Requirements the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) has issued strict terms and conditions for telecom operators to follow which are likely to have significant impact on the quality of telecom services.

TRA will also review the reports provided by the licensee and audit the records (not done before) in accordance to the quality of service (QoS) requirements.

'The focus of the new regulation was to set new challenging targets for the QoS key performance indicators in order to ensure improvement in the telecom service since this will result in a significant impact on the quality of telecom service' TRA stated.

What the rules demand The licensee shall provide a report on the performance indicator of the quality of service to TRA not more than a month from the end of the measuring period specified. The licensee shall also publish these reports in two local newspapers. The licensee shall be obliged to accomplish the requirement of QoS (Key Performance Indicators) or else face penalties which may go up to thousands of rials depending on the quality of service that has not been met.
