Oman- Riyada offers platform for SMEs to interact with large companies

Riyada has started an initiative to help SMEs find a way to get business from large companies.

As part of the initiative Riyada is offering SMEs a platform to interact with representatives of such companies.

Riyada officials hope that these firms will help by allocating a part of their projects to SMEs. SMEs will have to prove themselves in order to find a way in officials said.

'It's like creating a link between them. That is the whole idea - creating chances for our SMEs to get these jobs' said Salma al Harrasi acting director of marketing and events development Riyada. On Tuesday the first meeting was held for companies in the construction sector. Representatives from companies like L&T Carillion Alawi Petrofac and Shapoorji Pallonji attended.

Representatives of SMEs at the meeting gave their introduction through presentations. Riyada officials said there are 400-500 SMEs in the construction sector which could benefit from larger projects. Some of the large infrastructure projects include hotels the new convention centre and oil and gas installations. Riyada is planning to hold additional meetings for fields such as information technology tourism and logistics as well.
