ITM Power looks forward to London's first hydrogen refuelling station

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors - UK) ITM Power plc (LON:ITM) told investors that London's first hydrogen car refuelling station will be opened on Tuesday May 10.

The station located at the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington close to the A316 and A308 trunk roads is being launched to raise market awareness of hydrogen fuel and the availability for lease and sale of fuel cell electric vehicles in the UK.

It is being launched in collaboration with car markers Toyota Hyundai and Honda as well as Symbio FCell which is set to launch a hydrogen fuel cell powered Kangoo van - a low emmission commercial vehicle capable of operating at a range of up to 275 miles.

The project is part of the HyFive project which is part funded by the European Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) and the UK's Office for Low Emission vehicles (OLEV).

ITM said it has been working closely with its partner Linde over the past few weeks testing the facility and it expects this close cooperation to continue.

It will be the first of five hydrogen refuelling stations to be opened in London.

The second HyFive station will be located at the Centre of Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence on the A13 in Rainham close to both Canary Wharf and the M25.

A third station on a Shell forecourt has received planning permission.

All of these three stations are expected to be opened during summer 2016.

Two further stations are expected to be opened during 2016 under a separate scheme also part funded by FCH JU and OLEV. Both sites have received planning permission.

"The opening of five public access hydrogen refuelling stations in London before the end of 2016 is a big task' said Dr. Graham Cooley ITM Power chief executive.

'It represents the culmination of several years of diligent work and allows the company to demonstrate its ability to deliver large and complex projects.

'Combined with our well targeted marketing and rapidly developing sales pipeline I believe the Company is in a very exciting stage of growth and I look forward to updating the market on further developments as appropriate."

ITM is so far involved in a total of 16 hydrogen refuelling stations projects which have had planning applications approved by ten different local authorities.

Separately ITM also highlighted its success at the Hannover Messe event which took place between April 25 and April 29 and saw some 190000 visitors including US President Barrack Obama important EU delegates.

Notably Maros Sefcovic the EU's vice-president of energy visited ITM Power's stand and met with Dr Cooley to discuss Power-to-Gas Energy Storage in Europe.

ITM said its stand which exhibited a complete HGas 0.3MW electrolyser system and a 1.5 MW stack module saw the highest level of interest in the company's 6th year of attendance.

A large number of expressions of interest were received and the company expected to follow up with quotes.

Specifically the group's MW scale Power-to-Gas products attracted a significantly higher level of interest it added.

The company's HGas product was nominated for the prestigious Hermes award which is referred to as the 'Oscars of Industry' and it was placed in the top five for the award.
