(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The United States congressional delegation currently visiting Egypt will recommend supporting Egypt in its counter-terrorism efforts, head of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Egyptian parliament Mohammad Orabi said.
The US delegation is keen to support Egypt both politically and economically, Orabi said in a press statement.
Both sides affirmed that economic support is as important as security and military support.
Egypt must push for the US administration to cooperate on the issue of the Egyptian citizen who was killed in the US, Orabi said.
The delegation is led by congressman Michael McCaul who is supposed to meet the Egyptian president on Tuesday.
The delegation is supposed to discuss counter-terrorism issues, especially as security concerns in neighbouring Libya have become more significant.
McCaul is the chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, which has oversight of the US Department of Homeland Security ensuring it is able to carry out its core mission of counter-terrorism.
The US congressional delegation will review security measures in Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh airports over the course of the visit.
The delegation will also review all security procedures to secure passengers and luggage, the head of Security at EgyptAir Tarek Zaki said in press statements to local newspapers last week.
Several US congressional delegations have visited Egypt over the past few months, which may be a sign of amicable relations.
The Egyptian-US relations were tense following the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood's government in 2013.
