Katara launches book on Qatar's history

DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara has launched a book that documents Qatar’s history as reflected in the Arab media.

The book Qatar in the Arab Press 1909-1998 was compiled by a team of researchers at Katara’s Studies and Research Committee. “The book documents articles reports investigations columns photo-journalistic coverage and clippings published in Arabic newspapers magazines and periodicals” said Katara research expert Abdul Aziz Rifaat at the launch. The book was unveiled in the presence of Dr Nadia Al Madahka Director Research Department Katara. Dr Al Madahka speaking on behalf of Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said “It’s my pleasure to meet you today as we celebrate the launch of a new Katara milestone publication.

“The book represents the latest of our documentary publications which Katara was keen to print publish and distribute in line with its commitment and contribution to documenting Qatar’s civilised history.”

Rifaat said preparations for the book involved efforts and cooperation of authorities and organisations and that more publications will follow. “The book is a publication that will continue to receive attention and appreciation of the generations as it reflects the importance of the cultural historic value” he said.

Katara is keen to publish books to contribute to achieving its objectives and promoting national identity in the Qatari society by connecting generations with their past civilisation and reinforcing loyalty and belonging to their country.
