Arab Group calls for permanent representation at UN Security Council

NEW YORK 3rd May 2016 (WAM) -- The Arab Group at the United Nations has called for permanent representation with full powers in case of an expansion of the UN Security Council.

This came during a speech delivered on behalf of the Arab Group by Kuwaiti Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform.

According to Kuwaiti News Agency Al-Otaibi stressed the need for suitable representation of the Arab countries at the Security Council indicating that it makes up 12 percent of the UN membership.

He said that several Arab issues discussed by the Security Council reflect the necessary representation of the group at the council so as to guarantee allowing for Arab views during discussions.
