UAE- NMC holds symposium on reading

ABU DHABI 3rd May 2016 (WAM) -- The National Media Council hosted today on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair a cultural symposium on 'How to prepare a reading generation'.

Speaking at the symposium were Ali Abu Al Reesh a noted Emirati poet and novelist and Sheikha Al Jaberi an Emirati writer. It was moderated by Dr. Mariam al Shinasi owner of Dar Al Yasmin Publishing House.

The symposium shed light on reading as a daily activity and part of behaviour aimed at widening knowledge and spreading culture among members of the community.

The speakers discussed reading as a vital activity and referred to the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to mark 2016 as the year of reading and the support given to this initiative by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

They recommended utilising the media as a cultural tool and enlisting intellectuals and writers to promote reading.
