Myanmar posts USD24m fall in border trade over April


(MENAFN) Myanmar's border trade declined by more than USD24 million last month, the first month of fiscal year 2016-17, based on the latest reports.

The border trade for nearly one month stood at USD147.433mn while that of the corresponding timeframe of the fiscal year 2015-16 was USD171.877mn.

The border trade value with China through Muse border trade zone hit USD86.6mn for 1 month of FY2016-17 compared to USD118.5mn in FY2015-16.

In particular, the border trade deteriorated on the back of some temporary restrictions by China on some items including rice and re-exported sugar.

There are 15 border trade zones in Myanmar which link China, Thailand, India and Bangladesh. Of them, Muse border trade zone has the maximum trade value.
