Turkey logs 16.5pct plunge in tourism income over Q1

(MENAFN) Turkey's tourism revenue dropped by 16.5pct in the first three months compared to the same period of last year, based on recent reports.

The fall was due to a significant decline in the number of Russian tourists visiting the nation and rising security concerns after a number of suicide attacks.

In the cited period, tourism revenue fell to USD4.07bn, and while 71.3pct of the income came from foreign visitors, 28.7pct was gained from citizens who reside abroad.

Moreover, the overall foreign arrivals in Turkey dipped nearly 13pct in March to 1.65mn compared to the same month of 2015, the sharpest drop since Oct-2006.
