(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat-

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has said that two deaths have been reported due to the Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) in April.

Oman has recorded six cases of CCHF since early this year including three deaths. CCHF is a tick-borne disease transmitted by tick bites or contact with infected animals. The MoH statement said that the disease is endemic to Oman and the first case was reported in 1995.

The ministry said it is monitoring the situation together with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

As there is no effective vaccine against CCHF the only way to check transmissions is awareness about risk factors and preventive measures the statement said.

PREVENTING CCHF

Wearing protective clothing (long sleeves long trousers) while handling and slaughtering animals.

Do not touch remove or crush ticks by hand.

Use approved pesticides and avoid areas where ticks are abundant.

Report presence of ticks to authorities.
