Oman- Hepatitis A cases rise in South Sharqiyah

An official from MoH has said that South Sharqiyah has reported an increase in Hepatitis A cases.

A total of 136 cases were reported from the governorate from January 1 and April 26 this year a majority (76 per cent) were from Asila village in the wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Ali the official said citing from Epidemiological Surveillance Statistics. The official said that the reason behind this rise is person-to-person transmission and is not linked to a single source or food suppliers.

Results of the tests on samples from water sources in the village were negative.

Health teams in the wilayat have intensified awareness campaigns in schools and on community level educating people on the importance of personal and hand hygiene.

The Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources has been notified to adopt the required measures.
