Muscat Gujarati Samaj (MGS) conducted a 'Youth Leadership Programme' in association with Morrison Muscat Toastmasters Club for 22 children in the age group of 11-16 years recently.

This programme is an internationally acclaimed programme by Toastmasters International with its presence in 128 countries having more than 15000 clubs.

Youth Leadership Program me (YLP) is an informal course in the arts of communication and leadership. It is one of the best programmes available for the creative and energetic minds of today's children to bring about an overall enhancement in their interactive and expressive skills which eventually help them in boosting their confidence levels and develop their personality. Most importantly at very early age it will sow in them the seeds of becoming powerful and effective communicators and leaders of a modern tomorrow.

By participating in YLP children learn speaking and leadership skills which will keep them in good stead for the rest of your life. Children learn to overcome the nervousness everyone feels when asked to speak before an audience; organise and present their ideas logically and convincingly; listen carefully to others idea; offer advise that help others improve their speaking and leadership skills; participate and lead group discussions or meetings.

The YLP was led by Toastmaster Rajendra B Varma club mentor of the Morrison Muscat Toastmaster Club. Eight sessions of two hours each were conducted where the children were coached and mentored on speech making and impromptu speaking.

Several sessions were conducted on how to organise a speech use of gestures in speaking voice and vocabulary etc to make a speech effective.

The grand finale where children were expected to 'Show Their Skills' acquired during the YLP programme was held on April 16.

The full programme which consisted of prepared speeches evaluation and table topics was conducted by the children where all the skills acquired and practised in the YLP were on display. President of the grand finale session Hritika Sampat carried off the show with aplomb.
