President of Jordan s Senate meets US congressional aides delegation

AMMAN 2nd May 2016 (WAM) -- The President of the Jordanian Senate Faisal Al Fayez has said that Jordan has implemented wide political reforms including constitutional amendments and the endorsement of laws regulating political work to expand public participation in the decision making process.

At a meeting on Monday with a US congressional aides delegation Al Fayez reviewed the current situation in the region mainly the Syrian crisis and its impact on Jordan as well as the economic challenges facing the Kingdom as a result of hosting 1.5 million Syrian refugees the Petra News Agency reported.

"Jordan is stronger today in terms of security but faces economic hardships due to the current situation in the region and therefore it needs the support of the international community to enable it to continue its humanitarian role towards the Syrian refugees" the Senate President added.

Al Fayez also praised the strong ties between Jordan and the United States as well as the continued US support to the Kingdom that enables Jordan to address various challenges.

He said that a solution to the Palestinian issue that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital will contribute to putting an end to all conflicts and crises in the Middle East and eradicate terrorism and extremism.
