Jordanian FM and US Secretary of State discuss developments in Syria and Iraq

GENEVA 2nd May 2016 (WAM) -- Nasser Judeh Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and John Kerry US Secretary of State have discussed developments n the Syrian arena especially the serious humanitarian situation in Aleppo in addition to efforts to obtain re-confirmation of the agreement to the cessation of hostilities in various parts of Syria.

The Jordanian News Agency Petra reported that the two sides during the meeting last night in Geneva stressed the importance of working to ensure the arrival of humanitarian aid and support for the political transition process confirming their keenness to continue coordination cooperation and consultation between Jordan and the US to achieve this.

The Jordanian Foreign Minister re-affirmed his country's consistent position since the beginning of the Syrian crisis reiterating the importance of reaching a political solution that ensures the safety and security of Syria and its territorial integrity with the participation of all Syrian people.

He stressed the importance of working to accomplish this comprehensive political solution based on UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254 the decisions of the Geneva 1 talks and statements by the international community to support Syria in its meetings in Vienna and New York and finally in the Munich and Geneva negotiations.

The two sides also discussed the developments of the situation in Iraq and the importance of finding a political solution through dialogue with the participation of the Iraqi people leading to the restoration of security stability and the rule of law.
