Doha: Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Legacy and Delivery Hassan Al Thawadi said yesterday that all projects related to the World Cup are being carried out according to the standards of the committee. He added that projects are monitored carefully.

He revealed that the high growth rate of workers have placed many challenges ahead of the country. These challenges range from market regulation to providing the necessary services and housing.

Al Thawadi was speaking at a conference on supporting workers. He also said that Qatar has put a lot of effort over the past few years in improving workers’ conditions.

He highlighted the role workers play according to the country’s constitution and Qatar National Vision 2030. Al Thawadi stressed that Qatar was determined to use hosting Qatar World Cup 2022 as a motive to improve workers’ conditions.

He referred to three reports that the committee issued related to monitoring the implementation of the workers welfare guidelines.

“The committee moved immediately to deal with the outcomes of those reports. The philosophy of committee with companies to implement the changes focused on highlighting rewards rather than punishment” he said..

Al Thawadi maintained that since Qatar is the first Arab and Islamic nation to organise the World Cup it is natural the country will face many challenges.

He highlighted however that Qatar gained recognition from international human rights organisations on the country’s progress in the field.QNA
