'Handmade in Qatar' expo attracts over 500 visitors

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Hilton Hotel Doha-West Bay has witnessed the first open ‘Handmade in Qatar’ exhibition with nearly 60 artists crafters and designers taking part.

The event was held in Nashira Ballroom and catered for more than 500 visitors during its hours from 10am to 3pm.

“We are very happy to host and welcome the exhibition at Hilton Hotel Doha” said Dina Helmy from the hotel. “Events as such bring together people of different talents and cultural backgrounds to create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere and experience for the public.”

The exhibition also hosted four craft workshops — pixel art decoupage soap-making and paper flowers — for children and adults to develop their artistic skills.

“The idea of the exhibition immerged when I met QatART community team and saw their markets that are held at Katara” said Joe Kharrat General Manager IEC Qatar which organised the event.

“We aim to increase public awareness about and love of handmade products and it was great to see people come to our exhibition and explore artists’ work with interest and passion for what is new and unique” Kharrat said.

“With such success we sure look forward to organising and planning bigger events that cater for the same purpose.”

For QatART this was not their first go with handmade events as the community is known for arranging handmade markets at Katara Art Studios from October until April every year!

“What made this exhibition different from our previous experiences is the fact that we opened our doors to all artists designers and crafters in Qatar with no restrictions.

“The only criterion we applied was the originality of design and products” said Amira Elhamy Board Member QatART.

“We are very grateful to Hilton Hotel Doha and IEC for hosting and organising the exhibition it is opportunities like these that allow our community to grow and develop into being the biggest promoters of handmade products in Qatar” said Alysa Prabhu of QatART board team.
