(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) The United Nations Security Council
(UNSC) has rejected a recent statement by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Tel Aviv will never relinquish the occupied Golan Heights saying the occupied region’s status “remains unchanged.”
“The Council members expressed their deep concern over recent Israeli
statements about the Golan and stressed that the status of the Golan remains unchanged” China’s UN Ambassador Liu Jieyi who is this month president of the 15-nation Security Council said after a closed-door meeting on the Golan Heights in New York on Tuesday.
The council resolution 497 of 1981 made it clear that Israel’s decision
at the time to impose its laws jurisdiction and administration in the Golan was “null and void and without international legal effect” he said.
