S. Korea's KT&G sees solid sales in new markets


(MENAFN) KT&G, South Korea's biggest tobacco maker, is creating a firm foothold in new export markets like the United States and Africa, according to the latest reports.

The private-owned giant exported a total of 46.5bn cigarettes last year and 18.4bn were sold in those new markets also including Latin American and Asia-Pacific nations.

Overall 2.8bn cigarettes were sold in the US in 2015; almost trebling from 1.1bn registered five years earlier, also 2.8bn were sold in Africa, a 70-fold increase from 40mn cigarettes.

"The accomplishment in the new markets abroad is meaningful in that (KT&G) has secured a fresh breakthrough for growth in new markets," stated a company official.
