Al Kawari honoured with 'Man of the Arab Heritage' Award

DOHA: H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kawari Cultural Adviser to the Emiri Diwan and Qatar’s candidate for the post of Unesco Director-General was honoured with the 2016 “Man of the Arab Heritage” award in a ceremony in Dubai on Tuesday. The award comes as a recognition of Qatar’s efforts to preserve and protect heritage which occupies a prominent position in the country’s development plan as directed by Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said Dr Al Kawari during his speech at the award ceremony.

“Man of the Arab Heritage” is the most important award presented by the Arab Centre for Tourism Media (ACTM) in the course of its awards aiming at promoting Arab tourism and preserving the Arab heritage

He pointed out that honour carries great responsibility and trust that requires exerting further efforts regionally and internationally to safeguard human heritage noting that this responsibility falls within the noble goals of his candidacy to the post of Unesco Director-General.

Al Kawari said that the award comes in a difficult time when the Arab and Islamic heritage is facing destruction and demolition by the advocates of rigid ideologies who do not recognize the value of heritage and do not represent the tolerance of Islam and the Arab civilization.

The honouring ceremony was held under the patronage of the President of the Arab Parliament Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan who also presented the award to Dr. Al Kawari in the presence of several ministers of culture and tourism and a number of senior officials from the UAE government.

Dr Al Kawari expressed his thanks saying “It my it is my pleasure to be among you today to receive this award. I thank the Arabic Centre for Media Tourism for sponsoring this award. I also thank the organization and all individuals who have supported my nomination.” There is strong connection between heritage and tourism heritage being the main source to attract tourists said Al Kawari. “This award has highlighted the importance of the Arabic heritage and culture and we must be aware of the dangers that threaten our heritage which are valuable treasures to pass down to our young generation” he added.
