(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW April 27 (KUNA) -- The global fight against terrorism has changed civilization and the world's vigorous efforts are needed to effectively wage this battle Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.
In a speech delivered to the 5th Moscow International Security Conference and on behalf of President Putin Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said "Russia aerospace group in Syria dealt a mighty blow to the IS the so-called Islamic State and other terrorist groups turned the tide and created favorable conditions for advancing intra-Syrian dialogue for the sake of achieving a political settlement of the conflict." Putin recalled that international terrorism had acquired unprecedented scale and as a matter of fact challenged civilization.
"To effectively resist that global threat the world community must take concerted and pro-active measures" Putin added.
"This is precisely the aim of the Russian initiative for creating a wide anti-terrorist front on the universal legal and regulatory basis under the auspices of the United Nations" Putin noted.
He expressed the certainty that the just-started conference would consider in detail a wide range of issues "requiring joint solutions with reliance on international law and the principle of equitable and indivisible security." According to the speech the Russian initiative to create a wide anti-terrorist front on a universal international legal basis and under the auspices of the UN aims to reach this goal.
A US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27.
But It did not apply to terrorist groups such as IS and Al-Nusra Front both outlawed in many countries including Russia.
Both Washington and Moscow have been conducting military operations against terrorists in the war-torn country.
The US-led international coalition of more than 60 members has been carrying out airstrikes against IS targets in Iraq and Syria since 2014. (end) as.mb
