(MENAFN- Asia Times) Regular consumption of watermelon seeds will keep your skin young and healthy.
While it's fairly easy to deseed fruits like apples and oranges with a big fat fruit like watermelon the process is quite cumbersome. Much timeis spent on spitting out the seeds than relishing the melon.
But thanks to science you don't have to do that anymore. Watermelon seeds have more health benefits than the actual fruit itself. So if you don’t mind the slightly bitter taste and chewy texture you can eat the watermelon seeds along with the tasty melon.
Watermelon seedsare good for skin hair and your overall wellbeing. These seeds contain fatty acids proteins and minerals. They are rich in magnesium potassium manganese iron zinc phosphorus and copper.
According to Chinese medicine dried watermelon seeds can be boiled in water and consumed as a tea. The seeds strengthen the kidneys and also helps lower high blood pressure.
In Asian countries such as China Japan Korea and Thailand roasted watermelon seeds are eaten as a snack. No wonder the people have supple skin and strong hair.
Watermelon seeds are good for both men and women particularly those in their thirties as that's when the skin starts showing signs of aging. Regular consumption of watermelon seeds will keep your skin young and healthy.
The oil extracted from watermelon seeds is also good for external application. Called Ootanga oil or Kalahari oil it is light in texture and therefore does not clog the pores in your skin nor does it interrupt with the normal functioning of your skin. In fact this is one of the essential ingredients of baby oil.

As you see here I eat entire halves of watermelon post workout or when I’m at the beach in the sun all day or because I want to Watermelon is super rich in the antioxidant lycopene and Vitamin A thus reducing the body of free radicals and toxins. Watermelon can also be used as a toner for oily skin by simply blending 1/4 watermelon juice 2 tbsp. cucumber juice 2tbs distilled water 2 tbsp rosewater. Pour into a spray bottle and keep in the refrigerator. The vitamin A in the watermelon immediately tightens pores and the cucumber helps in fighting puffiness and inflammation. Watermelon can also be used to treat sunburn!! Simple take 1 cup of watermelon (the red and the green-rind) and blend with 1/8 cup mint. Take mixture and exfoliate into the affected (sunburned) area. It’s a tad messy but you’ll smell amazing and it really helps combat redness and that hot skin feeling. Probably the most important health aspect of watermelon is it’s super high water content. I love to juice watermelon with mint and celery for an amazing post workout drink-also does wonder of ridding the body of unwanted water retention! The most valuable thing I do for my skin and hair is drink atleast a gallon of water especially in the summer months when I sweat and work outdoors more often. For those concerned with sugar intake..don’t be! If you’re moving your body sweating and not eating any processed sugar–you’re fine! Too much of anything is no bueno even healthy stuff! Those of you who think nuts are a super food you may be right to a degree but 1/4 cup too many nuts can halt digestion and add up to an entire day’s worth of fat intake. So please keep in mind fruit sugar is not the enemy guys! I’m one of those weirdos who would rather have watermelon than chocolate or a muffin anyway.
