HE Governor of Central Bank Highlights Role of supporting Growth


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) HE Governor of Qatar Central Bank Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud Al-Thani highlighted the high priority Qatar National Vision 2030 holds for the financial sector and its contribution to economic growth.

HE the Governor was giving a speech at the opening ceremony of a forum by Association of National Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) in Member Countries of the Islamic Development Bank (ADFIFMI), a two-day event taking place in Doha. The forum discusses policies of different banks after the financial crisis.

His Excellency said that the Central Bank, Qatar Financial Center and Qatar Financial Markets Authority cooperated and placed the Strategic Plan 2013 -2016. One of the main goals of this plan was to enhance the infrastructure of markets, enhance consumer protection and building human capital among others.

HE the Governor noted that the Central Bank implements the Third Basel Accord in order to guarantee the stability of financial markets in the country.

His Excellency also noted that part on improving the financial infrastructure was launching the Renminbi Clearance Centre (RCC) in Doha, which is the first of its kind Middle East and North African region.
On today's event, HE the Governor said the forum will discuss the role of financial institutions in economic growth. His Excellency stressed that it was important to tackle the relationship between fiscal and monetary policies. HE the Governor said it was important that financial stability is not compromised by monetary policy.

Focusing on the role of Qatari financial institutions in enhancing growth, His Excellency highlighted the support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Qatar. HE the Governor focused in particular on the services provided by Qatar Development Bank and the role it plays in expanding the activities of SMEs.
