Qatar Rail workers get traffic and safety tips

Doha: Qatar Rail has partnered with the Ministry of Interior on a traffic safety and security awareness programme for workers involved in delivering its landmark projects.

The initiative was launched last June for senior foreign employees engineers and technicians.

The ministry’s Public Relations Department prepared awareness programmes for them to make their move from their home countries less challenging by briefing them on Qatari customs and laws including traffic safety drug and alcohol control Internet law and cybercrimes and introduce the Qatar Community Policing arm.

The programme was re-run for workers last October with other specially tailored events in languages including English Hindi Urdu and others. The programme has completed its second phase which featured awareness events for workers bus drivers who transfer them to sites and security guards who work at the sites and workers’ residence.

The programmes were offered at Qatar Rail sites in coordination with its contractors who were tasked with setting up meeting rooms on work sites and workers’ accommodations. The final event was held at the accommodation of Red Line workers. The programmes were attended by over 400 workers.

Engineer Hassan Ahmed Al Hamed Al Marwani Executive Director Technical Interface Department QR said: “Due to the success of the initiative we are pleased to be once again collaborating with the ministry to hold the second phase of the programme for workers who are the cornerstone of everything we do.

“We are committed to ensuring that all those working on our projects have the right knowledge and support to safeguard themselves their colleagues the wider public and the overall success of our projects as well as help them acclimatise with the Qatari society.

“The programme along with the recent launch of the Green Line Training Centre reflects the importance Qatar Rail places on health and safety and we look forward to announcing more initiatives.”

Highlights of this year’s programme included lectures by representatives of the ministry’s seven departments including Traffic; Civil Defence; Public Relations; Drug Enforcement; Public Guards; Criminal Evidence and Information; and Community Policing on issues such as traffic safety how to prevent road accidents and the dangers of not driving safely; causes of fires and how to prevent them; effects of drug abuse on individuals and society in addition to lectures on Qatari culture heritage and traditions and an introduction to community policing.
