Turkey's Cagla bags 82nd spot in global tennis rankings


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Cagla Buyukakcay became the first Turkish tennis player to be ranked among top 100 players in the Women's Tennis Association rankings when she claimed the 82nd spot Monday according to standings posted on the association’s official website.

26-year-old Buyukakcay won the local TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup title enabling her to climb 36 ranks in the WTA standings.

Cagla won the title by beating her Montenegrin opponent Danka Kovinic 2 sets to 1 (3-6 6-2 6-3) in the final match Sunday.

She is also the first Turkish tennis player to have won a title in the WTA tournaments.

The top five spots in the WTA rankings remained the same Monday with American ace Serena Williams staying at the top followed by Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska Germany's Angelique Kerber Spain's Garbine Muguruza and Belarus' Victoria Azarenka.
