SHARJAH 25th April 2016 (WAM) -- The Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority EPAA is participating in the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival SCRF 2016 taking place at the Expo Centre Sharjah from 20th to 30th April.

Through its participation in SCRF 2016 for the fourth consecutive year the EPAA plans to meet visitors at its stand particularly children and students and provide them with booklets that promote awareness about the environment and wildlife.

The EPAA has also developed a children's story called "A Day in the Desert" that will be shared at the festival. The story introduces junior readers to the realities of the eco-system of the desert as well as instructs on how to protect the environment and discover different forms of desert flora and fauna. Other informative materials include tips on how to plant Ghaf trees and how to save other indigenous trees.

Hana Saif Al Suwaidi Chairperson of the Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority said "Sharjah Children's Reading Festival is one of the most highly anticipated annual events in which the EPAA is always eager to participate. It provides a platform to meet with children and increase awareness on how to save the local environment and wildlife. We aim to instill this culture in the hearts of the visitors at SCRF 2016 and turn it into a habit and lifestyle. Awareness of the importance of saving the environment should be raised among children from a very early age."

Al Suwaidi said that the EPAA's participation helps introduce its role in raising public awareness of the importance of biodiversity conservation and promoting the need for future generations to contribute to realising its endeavours.
