Iraq signs deal with GE to enhance power at USD 328.8mn

(MENAFN) Iraq has signed a long-term "planned framework agreement" with General Electric which covered many projects to boost national power resources.

Accordingly, one of the projects would produce more than 400 MW for oil implementations by summer, while it will cut gas flaring from oil fields.

However, the country faces chronic electricity lacks, with its fragile grid struggling meet demand after war, sanctions and neglect.

In addition, many areas lack access to electricity or drinking water, prompting demonstrations by thousands of Iraqis last year.
