Volleyball: Al Rayyan in final of Qatar Cup

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Action from the Qatar Cup Volleyball semi-final match between Al Rayyan and Police at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Doha yesterday.

Doha: Al Rayyan overcame stiff resistance from Police to reach the final of the Qatar Cup Volleyball .

Yesterday at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena Al Rayyan won the five-set thriller to book a place in the April 28 final.

Al Rayyan had began their campaign with a resounding victory in the first match of the series and continued in the same vein overcoming the tough challenge of Police 3-2 (24/26 25/16 27/25 21/25 & 15/10).

On Friday Al Rayyan Sports Club withstood immense pressure from Police team to beat the later in a well-fought five setter.

The final scores read 3-2 (26/24 24/26 25/23 22/25 and 15/12) in favour of Al Rayyan.

The second finalists will be decided in the third and deciding match between Al Arabi and El Jaish on April 26.

El Jaish bounced back to tie the series at one-all. The Armymen defeated Al Arabi 3-2 in the second match of the best-of-three semi-final series forcing a decider on April 26.

In another match El Jaish overcame Qatar Volleyball Association League winners Al Arabi 3-2 (25/23 25/21 21/25 22/25 and 15/11).

Al Arabi started off on a promising note pocketing the first two sets but El Jaish made a brilliant recovery winning the next three to win the second match of the semi-final series and set up a decider.

On Friday Al Arabi Club had no difficulty in beating El Jaish in straight sets 3-0.

The final will be played at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena.The Peninsula
