Rocket projectiles kill one in SE Turkey
(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) >Three rocket projectiles fired from Syria killed one and injured 10 others in Turkey’s southeastern border province of Kilis on Sunday evening said Turkish officials.
At a press conference at the Kilis Governor's Office Deputy Prime Minister Yalcin Akdogan said three rocket projectiles fired from the Syrian side at around 6.00 p.m. local time (1500GMT) had killed one person and injured 10 others. “As rules of engagement require our security forces immediately responded with artillery fire and the operation in the zones [in Syria] where the rocket projectiles came from are continuing” he added. Stating that he initially come to Kilis to witness what was happening in the region Akdogan said: “Since Jan. 18 45 rocket projectiles hit Kilis. 16 of our citizens lost their lives and 62 of our citizens were injured. Today at 10.40 a.m. (0740 GMT) two more rocket projectiles landed. 16 people were injured.” An Anadolu Agency correspondent reporting from the scene said the latest rocket landed in a mosque 100 meters away from the Governor's Office building around 6 pm on Sunday. “Unfortunately there is no authority across our borders. Terrorist organizations are running wild. There are different types of organizations armed organizations. The developments across our border may affect Turkey as well” he said. Kilis lies 6 kilometers (4 miles) from the Syrian border and has been repeatedly hit by rockets fired from Syria.
