Doha: Qatar rugby title winning captain Tom Featherstone says the host nation were under pressure going into the final match of the Asian Rugby Division III Championship against Lebanon but were able to withstand the pressure.

“It’s a great feeling to beat Lebanon in front of our home supporters. There was a lot of pressure on us to win but we turned that pressure into positive energy. Full credit to Lebanon who could have easily won but I am glad and proud of my boys were never stopped working. It’s easy to slip off your guard when you trailing but we never gave up. We were determined to take the match. Thank you to all our friends family and supporters” Featherstone said while talking to reporters.

The Qatar National Rugby team annexed the 2016 Asian Rugby Championship Division III with a well-taken 25-19 victory over last season’s champions Lebanon in the final at the Aspire Warm up and purpose built rugby track on Friday evening after a 12-12 dead lock at the break.

Reflecting on the loss after the match Lebanon’s lock and vice captain Mounir Finan said: “Full credit to the Qatar team and the Federation. It has been a great event but unfortunately tonight was not our night. At the end it was most probably our discipline that cost us the match. We made several mistakes and we took chances that we shouldn’t have. We also had three yellow cards which in the end proved to be a big factor.”
