Microsoft logs 25pct plunge in profits over Q1

(MENAFN) Microsoft has registered a surprise decline in quarterly sales and profit, in a sign that the tech giant is still finding its way in the post-PC era.

Specifically, income for the January-March quarter decreased 6 percent to USD20.5 billion, whereas profit deteriorated 25 percent to USD3.76 billion.

While sales of PCs have been dipping for the last 4 years, the behemoth has been working to be less reliant on revenue from its flagship Windows operating system.

The Redmond-based Supermajor stated that its revenue from Windows software licenses fell 2pct in the March quarter, after adjusting for currency fluctuations.
